Chairman
and CEO
E.
Weldon Childress is the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of
Dixie Tool.
Mr.
Childress's background in the manufacturing industry began in the
1950's with a career in sales. After realizing that there was a
need for a distributor business that specialized in metalworking
supplies, he founded Dixie Tool in 1964.
Dixie
grew over the years, with two divisions eventually forming; Dixie
Tool and Abrasives, which dealt in metalworking cutting tools, abrasives
and supplies, and Dixie Machine Tools, which deals with the sales
and service of metalworking manufacturing equipment.
Under
Mr. Childress's direction, both of these divisions grew, as well
as did the trade area that Dixie covered, expanding from the upstate
of South Carolina to the majority of both North and South Carolina.
In
1978, Mr. Childress founded Dixie Equipment Leasing, Inc., which
was formed to assist customers in financing machine tools through
a lease/purchase agreement. This company has created a real service
to customers and has assisted in many shop start-ups.
In
1991, Dixie Tool sold its Dixie Tool and Abrasives division and
began to concentrate solely on the machine tool and machine tool
accessory business.
Mr.
Childress has been involved in several community projects and has
served as past Chairman of the Greenville-Spartanburg Chapter of
SME (Society of Manufacturing Engineers.)
Dixie
Machine Tools now covers the trade area of South Carolina, North
Carolina, southern Virginia, and northeast Georgia with showrooms,
offices and service departments in Easley, South Carolina, and Burlington,
North Carolina.
